proposed for use as skeletal anchorage in orthodontic treatment.1-5 In 1992, Wehrbein and colleagues, in collaboration with the Straumann Institute, introduced the Orthosystem*—a sandblasted, chemically treated mini-implant that is narrower (3.3mm), but longer (4mm or 6mm), than previous types.6-9 More recently, Giancotti and colleagues showed a step-by-step procedure for insertion of the Straumann Orthosystem in the midpalatal area,10 along with its application as skeletal anchorage in extraction treatment.11,12 This article describes a new ImplantSupported Deimpactor System (ISDS), in which an Orthosystem palatal implant is used for anchorage in the treatment of impacted maxillary canines.

Finite element analysis on stress distribution of maxillary implant-retained overdentures depending on the Bar attachment design and palatal coverage
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of anchorage systems and palatal coverage of denture base on load transfer in maxillary implant-retained overdenture. MATERIALS AND METHODS Maxillary implant-retained overdentures with 4 implants placed in the anterior region of edentulous maxilla were converted into a 3-D numerical model, and stress distribution patterns in implan...

Background and Aim: Impaction of maxillary cuspids is the most common after third molars with 1% to 3% prevalence. Localization of these impacted teeth may affect orthodontic or surgical treatment plan. Therefore, different techniques have been introduced to localize impacted canines. The present study was conducted to compare the accuracy of panoramic, tube shift and panoramic plus palpation i...

premolars, extremely displaced canines, or severe trauma to the central incisors all result in a reduced upper dentition. The two most common treatment approaches are space closure or space opening to allow prosthodontic replacement with either a fixed prosthesis or singletooth implants. Both of these approaches involve compromises in terms of esthetics, periodontal health, and function.1 In m...

Abstract Introduction: Maxillary canines commonly have an ectopic eruption. This study aimed to assess the factors related to the ectopic maxillary permanent canines. Materials and Methods:This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of 1357 panoramic radiographs from patients 8 to 13 years old. The radiography was excluded if the patient had any developmental disease or if the panoramic im...

INTRODUCTION Resorption of the root of the maxillary incisors during ectopic eruption of the maxillary canines is not an uncommon phenomenon, and must be considered in all patients with seriously diverging eruption of the maxillary canines. CASE PRESENTATION We report on the diagnosis and treatment of a 10-year-old Chinese boy with severe crowding and risk of root resorptions caused by impact...
